All things are equal when talking about the shape, material of size of a tea bag? Most certainly not! While the pyramid shape and texture is rather stylish there is a lot more to it then that ( who knew?)
To give a bit of history on the tea bag, legend has it that the first tea bag was invented accidentally. In the early 1900s a tea salesman discovered that it was possible to make a cup of tea by purely dropping a silk pouch that was full of tea into hot water.
Pyramid bags are made with various material but all have the same thing in common- they allow the water to flow more freely within the bag. The net-like mesh, created larger holes then the traditional paper bags that allowed for water to come in contact with more of the tea’s surface area, thus releasing more essential oils and character into the cup.
The Pyramid tea bag basically duplicate what happens in your teapot infuser with loose tea leaves. The advantage of the pyramid bag is that it's great for on the go and in a hurry. Pyramid tea bags not only has the advantages and convenience of what traditional tea bags has, it also gives you the tea quality what loose tea leave can provide. Pyramid bags give a shape that accommodates a wider scope for various ingredients. Regular tea bags only allow tiny particles to be used, of which you cannot even decipher the ingredients. Pyramid bags allow space for dry fruit pieces, flowers, and spices allowing for more natural and creative blends.
Pyramid Tea Bags VS Traditional
We all agree that tea can be prepared using loose leaf or tea bags and be equally enjoyed. The dilemma arises when the question is about the shape of tea bags. Ultimately we want our tea bag to result in the best cup of tea in terms of flavour quality.
However, many people don't know that flat, round, pyramid (triangular) and rectangular tea bags are different in the question of effectiveness and efficiency. This has been a battle over the years that separates lovers of tea. The Advertising Standard's Authority (ASA) has stated that the pyramid shaped tea bags are a step ahead of the others when it comes to brewing.
The introduction of the pyramid bags led to an innovative approach to tea brewing and changed the old rules. The triangular structure enables space for tea to move around with greater ease. As the hot water is added to a cup with a tea bag, it's expected that the leaves move in a circular way as they heat and then cool down. This means that a pyramid tea bag imitates what goes on in an infuser or a teapot that utilizes loose leaf tea.
Plant Based Tea Bags
If you've been keeping up to date with the news, you probably heard the concerns surrounding tea bags and plastic microparticles being consumed from them.
We understand the concerns. However, we assure you Tease Tea's pyramid bags are compostable and plastic-free. We make the effort to take responsibility to next level, especially when it concerns the planet and the health and safety of our loyal customers.
It is important to remember that the study cited in the CBC news article does itself highlight that there is no evidence that the plastic microparticles found pose any risk to human health.
How can we be sure though? Am I consuming plastic?
Here's how we know:
Our plastic-free pyramid bags are made from plant fibres. We want to deliver the highest quality tea bags without compromising quality and the environmental impact.
Our pyramid tea bags are made from sugar cane and corn/abaca. Our pyramid tea bags are not made from nylon or any other petroleum based compound.
When we started looking into selling our Tease loose leaf in ready-to-use tea bags, we wanted to give you the same quality without compromising what we stand for. This is why we sought out our Canadian manufacturer whose values on sustainability and the environment aligned with ours. Our Canadian manufacturer uses innovative pyramid bag technology and feels that their footprint should not have an impact 400 years from now, and we agree. This is why we only sell 100% compostable and plant based pyramid bags.

Good For Your Body & the Planet
It can be easy to believe that all tea bags are bad now with this being all over the news.
You can trust in Tease Tea to provide honesty and sustainable products that are not only good for your body but also good for the planet.
With the environmental crisis going on, Tease is one company you can trust to ensure your carbon footprint is not lost on us with every order. With our goal to empower you one cup at a time, by choosing the right type of tea we also want to empower you to make environmentally conscious decisions.
Unbleached Tea Bags
Common tea bags are bleached with chlorine to make look white, which some find more appealing than unbleached grey tea bags. Leaving you exposed to toxic by-products and chemicals which cause harm when ingested. No one wants that steeping in their mugs, this is why we never bleach our pyramid bags.
Plastic Free Tea Bags
According to a British Government waste company the environmental impact of tea bags could easily be reduced if people started composting them. For the most part tea bags are compostable but there’s 30% which is not. To keep the tea bag from opening they sealed it with a strip of heat-resistant polypropylene plastic. Leaving this to collect in our landfills year after year. This is why Tease uses plant based materials (sugar cane & corn fibres) to make our pyramid bags, with no staples or plastic, leaving you with a biodegradable tea bag & no environmental guilt.
Fully Recyclable Packaging
All our tea packaging is made from recycled materials using 75% less waste than conventional manufacturing. Whenever possible, our team makes the effort to reduce our carbon footprint by hiring local businesses to support our co-packing, blending, and product manufacturing needs.
Tease lovers, you can rest easy tonight knowing you support a company whose ethics and values are the same as yours. We do our best to create the least impact on the planet and on the body with the existing technology on the market today.
